How to Use ChatGPT and AI to Prepare for the Enem

With the National Secondary Education Exam (Enem) drawing nearer, many students have started bringing artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, into their revision routine. Used well, the technology can be a strong support: it helps with reviewing topics, clearing up questions, generating practice exercises and organising a study plan.

Even with all these options, it matters that the tool is used in moderation so it does not hinder the development of independence and critical thinking. According to Marcelo Moreno, a lecturer on the Information Technology programme at Anhanguera Faculty, artificial intelligence should be treated as a support tool rather than a replacement for the learning process.

“AI can make it easier to understand content and make studying more dynamic, but learning happens when the student takes an active role in the process. Ideally, technology should be used to complement study, not to think in the student’s place,” he says.

How to use ChatGPT productively

Among the ways the tool can support Enem preparation are breaking down complex topics, producing summaries, creating revision questions and helping structure a study timetable. “A student can ask AI to explain the same subject in different ways, set exercises or ask questions to check what they know. That encourages more active learning,” the lecturer explains.

Precautions to avoid becoming dependent

Despite the upsides, relying on artificial intelligence for ready-made answers can weaken interpretation, argumentation and problem-solving-skills that Enem assesses.

“The main danger is turning the tool into a permanent shortcut. When a pupil stops researching, reflecting and shaping their own answers, they end up restricting the development of important competences for the exam and for professional life,” Marcelo Moreno emphasises.

Recommendations for using AI in your studies

To benefit from artificial intelligence without undermining learning, it helps to follow a few practices during your study routine. Here are the main ones:

  1. Use the tool to clear up questions and explore topics in greater depth;
  2. Request exercises and questions to practise what you have learned;
  3. Cross-check AI responses against books and trustworthy sources;
  4. Avoid copying ready-made answers, especially for essays and assignments;
  5. Set aside study time without using technology, to strengthen memory and reasoning.

Balancing technology and independence

Finding the right balance is essential if you want to gain the advantages of artificial intelligence while keeping your independence as a learner. “Technology is here to stay, and learning to use it critically and consciously is an increasingly important skill. Students who can combine AI with traditional methods will be better placed to build solid learning and prepare for the challenges of Enem and the labour market,” concludes Marcelo Moreno.
